2022 Young Singers in Harmony National Convention
We’re delighted to confirm that this year’s national convention has been booked for September 21-22 at The Regent Theatre in Palmerston North.
Due to the current Red light setting preventing schools from rehearsing indoors, and the ongoing disruptions caused by Covid, there will be no regional contests this year. Groups will be able to register to take part in the national competition without qualifying at a regional event.
As per previous years, there is a $10 registration fee per student, capped at $750 per school. Registrations will open on our website on 1st April, and will close 31st May.
YSIH CONTEST CATEGORIES
We are aware of the important responsibility we have here at YSIH to create an inclusive environment for all of our participants. For that reason we have decided to move away from gendered category names, as we know there are people who compete in these categories who do not identify as such.
Young Men in Harmony will now be referred to as Lower Voices (LV)
Young Women in Harmony will now be referred to as Upper Voices (UV)
Mixed Harmony will now be referred to as Mixed Voices (MV)
We believe this is an important step forward for YSIH and we will continue to make changes as needed to ensure that our competitions and events are inclusive and welcoming spaces for everyone who takes part.
We look forward to welcoming you to the national convention in September 2022!

for the youth
Young Singers in Harmony (YSIH) New Zealand was formed by Les Nation in the early 1990’s as a non-profit organisation with the goal of encouraging and educating young people in barbershop a cappella singing. It is now a registered charitable trust overseen by a board of trustees and supported by a national management team.
YSIH has grown to be one of the most successful a cappella competitions in the world. We aim to provide students with opportunities to achieve musical excellence and personal growth through performance, competition and workshops...
